Terrestrial table globe

Terrestrial table globe. Geographical details on the sphere are the same as Replogle Globe, GLB0191. The label 'Fletchers Ridge' is shown above the Canadian Basin and labelled, 'ALPHA CORDILLERA'. A label for the cease-fire line in Vietnam reads 'Demarcation Line, July 22 1954'.

There are many symbols, including, for example, those of the principle navigable canals, for depth curves and soundings. On a small circular disc pasted on the North Pole, there are labels for 'Peary 1909', 'Byrd 1926' and 'USS Nautilus 1958'. In the north polar region is the note 'Greenland resembles / an ice filled bowl / rimmed by coastal ranges. / In some places the ice is more than 11.000 feet thick'. On a small circular disc pasted on the South Pole, there labels for 'Amundsen 1911', 'Scott 1912' and 'Byrd 1929'.The location of the south magnetic pole is marked and labelled.

There are three geophysical comments, including, for instance, one in the south polar region. There are two political notes, including, for example, one that reads: 'All nations with claims to Antarctic territory / have signed a treaty declaring the / continent an international preserve / for scientific research'.
