Celestial globe gores

Celestial globe gores. Astronomical details on the gores include stars represented by five symbols, but a magnitude table is lacking. The Milky Way is drawn, but not labelled. The 48 Ptolemaic constellations and three of the non-Ptolemaic constellations are drawn. Two of the southern constellations are drawn as well as five of the 12 southern constellations of Plancius, seven of those of Hevelius and six of those of Lacaille.

Although the gores are not signed, the agreement in style and content with those of Bale, GLB0255, is so striking that the attribution of these gores to him seems fully justified. Moreover, a 76 mm (three inch) celestial globe was later signed and published by Bale and Woodward. For full details about the cartography and construction of these gores please refer to the related publication, Globes at Greenwich.
