White Ensign

Battle ensign of HMS 'Llandudno' 1940 [minesweeper]. Worn at D. day, 6 June 1944. Presented by her commander, Lt. Cdr. F.G. Darnborough. Wool bunting, cotton hoist, machine sewn, wooden stiffener and metal grommets in hoist. A rope and Inglefield clips are attached. HMS Llandudno formed part of the 9th M.S.F. who rendezvoused with the rest of the invading force, south of St Catherine's, Isle of Wight at dusk D-1 and then proceeded to sweep and buoy a channel to Sword Beach, Normandy, which was reached as dawn broke on D. Day, flying this White Ensign.
