Amphora

A pottery amphora that was recovered in 1983 by fishing trawl in the Thames estuary, off the North Kent coast. It is a rare type made near Cadiz in Spain and dates to the early years of the Roman occupation of Britain. The amphora was still sealed when it was recovered, and was found to contain the remains of over 6000 olives when it was opened in the laboratory.
