John Jervis, Earl of St Vincent, K B

A half-length portrait to left of John Jervis, Earl of St Vincent (1752–1820) in admiral’s undress uniform, 1795–1812, with the ribbon and star of the Order of the Bath. He is seated on an upholstered chair in front of swags of drapery with rolled charts on a table beside him and a view of a naval engagement in the background. Lettered beneath the image with a facsimile of the sitter’s signature and the title, ‘John Jervis, Earl of St. Vincent, K.B.’. Also lettered with the production details and publication line: ‘J. Keenan / J. Cochran / Fisher, Son & Co. London, 1829.’ This portrait was engraved by John Cochran after John Keenan’s oil painting of 1801, which now known through William Barnard’s mezzotint engraving (see PAG9341). The print was published by Fisher, Son & Co. in 1829 as an illustration for William Jerdan’s ‘National Portrait Gallery of Illustrious and Eminent Personages of the Nineteenth Century’ (London: Fisher, Son, & Jackson, 1830), volume 1.
