Shoe
A small pair of leather shoes, with decorative additions of leather sewn round the opening and in the shape of a cross on the square toes. They are mounted in a red baize-lined, glazed box. The box has a hand written label 'These shoes were sent home by a seaman of HM Ship... July 6th 1845...under the command of Sir John Franklin'. They were presumably sent home by a member of Sir John Franklin's last expedition 1845-48 with the transport 'Baretto Junior' which left Franklin's ships in the neighbourhood of Disco, Greenland.
