Vase
A Sevres porcelain presentation vase of baluster form with gilt mask handles, presented to the Astronomer Royal, Sir George Biddell Airy (1801-1892). The vase is inscribed: 'COMMISSION INTERNATIONAL DE METRE PARIS 1872 AIRY Astronome Royal Á Greenwich DÉLÉGUÉ DE LA GRANDE BRETAGNE' within a laurel and oak crown on a bleu de roi ground.
