Punch and Judy puppet: the beadle

A glove puppet representing the beadle - another authority figure who arrives with an arrest warrant for Punch. Part of a Punch and Judy set belonging to puppeteer Peter Butchard (1909-2009). The puppet has a wooden head, hands, legs and feet. The face is painted with a red nose and cheeks. The puppet's tail coat and breeches are made of black cotton fabric, the coat lined in beige. The clothing is hand sewn. The figure has a white cotton waistcoat, pink woolly bow tie and tricorn hat. The coat and hat are trimmed with yellow ribbon. The limbs and hat are attached with nails. There is a brass ring sewn the the reverse to hang the puppet up.
