Set of templates for draughtsmens' use showing types of guns used c.1845

Gun templates for ship draughtsmen's use around 1845. Contained in a box. Drawn at 1:48 scale. The guns covered according to the slightly idiosyncratic key are: 68-pdr 113 cwt 1 qtr 12 lbs, 42-pdr 84 cwt, 10 feet long (Scourge) Fore & Aft, 68-pdr or 10-inch 85 cwt, 10 Inch 84 cwt 1qtr 14lbs, 68 pdr 65 cwt, 8 Inch or 32 of 56 cwt (two templates), 8 Inch 52 cwt and 32 pdr 40 cwt. There is also another template of a gun 32 pdr 25 cwt. The templates are mainly of guns shown on truck carriages in plan view but there are also two elevation patterns for a long and a short gun on slide mountings: 112 cwt 10ft 10" long and 32 pdr 25 cwt.

One of a number of naval architectural instruments which, based on information from Fred Walker (ex-NMM), are recorded on 35mm neg strips D1735 and D1736. This is frame 28A on D1735. [PvdM, 8/07]
