Cape

This lady's short-hooded cape belonged to second-class passenger Elizabeth Anne Mellenger. She was travelling on the 'Titanic' to take up a position as a housekeeper in Vermont after separating from her husband. She was accompanied by her daughter Violet who also survived the sinking. Initially Elizabeth entered lifeboat 14 but was later transferred to boat 12. She wore the cape during her escape from 'Titanic' and is said to have put it around Second Officer Lightoller to keep him warm after he was pulled from the water.
