Teapot

Press moulded black basalt teapot commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). It is decorated overall with a wandering line pattern. On each side is a shell in relief. On one side the shell bears a design of a monument with an obelisk on a base inscribed 'PRO PATRIA'. This is flanked by Britannia and Victory inscribing 'NELSON Octr 2...' on a shield. The other shell has a ribbon inscribed 'TRAFALGAR' placed across the staff of a British ensign, flying above a gun, shield, laurel branch and inverted foreign flags. The trophies are flanked by a pyramid and crocodile representing the battle of the Nile and a fortress representing the battle of Copenhagen. A key pattern decorates the rim and is echoed in the shape of the handle and finial.
