Staybusk

A staybusk engraved on one side with a whaling scene including two whaling vessels; one is ship-rigged and flying a house flag from the main mast, the other is rigged as a barque. Four boats are harpooning two sperm whales, the head of one can be seen to the left and the tail of the other in the centre. What may be the spout of a third whale can be seen on the far left.

This type of seamen's craftwork is known as scrimshaw.
