Shell damage suffered by HMS Warspite at Jutland
A view from the shelter deck of the upper deck forward of S1 6 inch gun casemate, showing damage suffered by HMS Warspite (1913) on 31 May 1916 during the Battle of Jutland. The holes were caused by the bursting of a 12 inch shell in the compartment below. This photograph was taken in No.1 Dry Dock at Rosyth. N16491 shows workmen repairing these holes.
