Chatelaine

Brass chatelaine, with an ornamental belt clasp, which is decorated with moulded female figures supporting an enamel plaque depicting an early 18th-century gentleman. The central chain is made of linked plates decorated with faces in relief. Depictions of gardening tools decorate the other attachments. The chatelaine comes complete with a thimble, a purse shaped pincushion, a scissor sheath and a spare clip. The chatelaine is inscribed with the words 'Emma Lyon Hamilton from HN', it is said to have belonged to Emma, Lady Hamilton (circa 1765-1815), although the provenance is thought to be dubious.
