Iron muzzleloading smoothbore 24-pdr gun mounted on iron garrison carriage. Calibre: 5.75in. Marks: '46' on left trunnion. 'C A B' on right trunnion. '24 arrow Pr' on carriage. Crown over George III on barrel. The 24-pdr gun was widely used at the time of the battle of Trafalgar but by 1850 had disappeared from the Royal Navy. Its range at point blank was 300 yards – at 10 degrees elevation about a mile.
