Satellite sledge assigned to HMS Discovery for Arctic exploration
        
        Used on Nares' Arctic Expedition 1875. A satellite McClintock sledge, used to support the sledge teams of five and eight men. [Previously incorrectly identified as a five man sledge].
Metal shod, wooden runners of jointed construction reinforced with copper pins. Cross bars lashed to runners with raw hide. Netting at each end of the sledge with a canvas cover in the middle. A load in a canvas cover packed on top [Museum prop]. Carved on sledge: "B SATELLITE SLEDGE DIS".
