Snow goggles

A pair of snow goggles belonging to Able Seaman W P Woolley, HMS "Alert" used on Nares' Arctic expedition 1875. Glass lenses with wire mesh sides. The two eye-pieces are joined by velvet ribbon so they fold together when in their case. In coppered oval metal box with lid. The lid is detached from the tin.
