Reverse: France seated (right), in an imperial crown, her left hand resting on an anchor and her right outstretched, shielding with her cloak four naked children. Legend: 'PUPILLES DE LA MARINE.' (Orphans of the Admiralty.) Exergue: 'LE CTE. P. DE CHASSELOUP-LAUBAT MINISTRE DE LA MARINE ET DES COLONIES.' Inscription: '25 NOV 1862'.
