Medal commemorating Admiral Edward Vernon (1684-1757). Obverse: Admiral Vernon three-quarter right. Right hand on gun muzzle, ship (right). Legend: 'NON . DORMIT . QUI . VINCIT.' (He who conquers does not sleep.) Exergue: 'ADMIRAL . VERNON . 1739 . IM'. Reverse: Full-length figure of Argyle, wearing robes and collar of the garter. He stands three-quarters right, and leans upon a column on which rests his coronet. Behind him a trophy of arms. Legend: 'IN . HUNC . INTUENS . CLARUS . ESTO.' (Be honourable, looking upon this man.) Below on a ribbon: 'DUKE OF ARGYLE'.
