        Medal commemorating Vernon's attack on Cartagena, 1741. Obverse: Half-length figure of Admiral Edward Vernon (1684-1757), three-quarter left, right hand extended, left holding baton. No line enclosing legend. Legend: 'I . CAME . I . SAW . I . CONQUERED'. Exergue (within line curving along edge): 'CARTHAGENA'. Reverse: Two ships sailing to right, towards a fort in foreground. Two forts in centre connected by chain boom, behind which a boat, above it inscribed 'DON BLASS'. Harbour indicated by semi-circular line.  Behind, city in straight line. Line enclosing legend. Legend: 'NONE . MORE . READY . NON . MORE . BRAVE . APRIL . 1741 .'  Vernon bombarded Cartagena in 1740 and a disastrous attempt was made to capture the city in April 1741. On this occasion the Spanish commander Blas de Lezo y Olavarrieta, successfully defended Cartagena against the British.
