The five-masted armoured frigate HMS Northumberland (1869) underway at sea.
A starboard bow view, just forward of the broadside, of the five-masted armoured frigate HMS Northumberland (1869) underway at slow speed at sea. The sails are furled but smoke can be seen coming from the two funnels. Northumberland underwent a refit from 1875 that included being re-rigged as a barque with three masts. The dark silhouettes of three other vessels are on the horizon off her bow (one) and stern (two).
