Medal commemorating the Battle of Trafalgar, 1805
Medal commemorating the Battle of Trafalgar, 1805. Obverse: The Admiral's bust (left), pigtail, full uniform. Star and ribbon of Bath, badge showing below the bust. Medal round neck. Legend: 'HORATIO VISCOUNT NELSON . K . B . DUKE OF BRONTE . &c.' Reverse: Legend, 'ENGLAND EXPECTS EVERY MAN WILL DO HIS DUTY'. Exergue: 'TRAFALGAR OCTR. 21. 1805'. This medal was surreptitiously struck from an obverse die which had been rejected by Mr Boulton as the head was not considered a good likeness of the Admiral.
