Sledge section

Sledge section. The section through the side of a sledge. Three pieces of wood joined in an H-shape by a metal bracket at one end . The other end is joined and held be a copper pin. The copper pin marked with a broad arrow. A recent label says that this is a section of a sledge proposed by Mr Scullard in 1877. This is very possibly Mr Joseph Scullard, senior foreman of the Royal Naval Dockyard at Portsmouth. The sledges for Nares' Arctic expedition were made there in 1875.
