In the top right corner the arms of Prince Henry, in the top left the masthead pennant in white bearing a Latin cross superimposed on a scarlet Maltese cross. The whole surrounded by an inscription in Portuguese of the name of the Congress 'congresso : internacional : de : historia : dos : descobrimentos MCCCCL MDCCCCL' interspersed with the same double cross as is on the pennant.
