Ingot depicting Pharoah Sahure's ship circa 2500 BC
Rectangular shaped ingot. Obverse: Starboard broadside view of Pharaoh Sahure's ship, sail set. Inscription: 'PHAROAH SAHURE'S SHIP'. Reverse: Inscription, 'PHAROAH SAHURE'S SHIP C. 2500 B.C. A relief on Sahure's tomb shows these sea going ships returning from a military voyage to Syria. Built of wood the Pharoah's ship had a two-legged mast that could be lowered when the sail was not in use. A heavy rope running the length of the deck supported the overhanging bow and stern.'
