Rope

A relic of Sir John Franklin's last expedition 1845-48. A short length of rope found by the Franklin Search Expedition 1850-51 led by Captain Horatio Austin. The rope is mounted on a paper label inscribed in ink 'Rope belonging to Erebus and Terror left at Beechy [sic] Island 1847 and found Aug 1850 by Capt. Austen [sic].' On the reverse 'Rope from Cape Riley Aug 1850'.
