Soup plate of the 'Arctic Scenery' pattern. It is made of earthenware, transfer-printed in blue with a central scene of Eskimos pulled on a dog sled based on an engraving by Edward Finden after G.F. Lyon in W.E. Parry's 'Journal of a Second Voyage for the discovery of a North-West Passage' (London, 1824). In the background, two ships overwintering in the Arctic from an engraving by William Westall after F.W. Beechey in W.E. Parry's 'Journal of a Voyage for the Discovery of a North-West Passage' (London, 1821). The border has alternative panels showing flowers and animals (a lion, cheetah, antelope and deer). There are six similar plates in the museum's collections AAA4320-AAA4324, AAA4341.
