Polar Medal 1910-36
Obverse: Bust of King George V, crowned and robed. Legend: 'GEORGIVS V.D.G.BRITT.OMN.REX ET INDIAE IMP.' Reverse: Starboard broadside view of a barque-rigged steamer (Discovery) fast in the ice; a volcano in the distance; a group of six men in polar dress on skis in the foreground; a sledge with sails (left). Inscription on edge: 'SPECIMEN'. Bar: 'ANTARCTIC 1928-31'. Fitted with cusped bar and white ribbon with brooch pin. Awarded to members of Sir Douglas Mawson's British, Australian and New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition.
