Teapot with lid

Pearlware teaport and cover, commemorating General George Augustus Eliott (1717-1790) and the Siege of Gibraltar, 1779-1781. It is hand painted on one side in the manner of David Rhodes with General Eliott in military uniform standing beside a cannon holding a telescope or baton, his coat coloured red and blue. Inscribed above is 'Elliot for ever'. On the other side is shown a Spanish gunboat crewed by four men. The teapot has a moulded handle and blue lines around the top and lid.
