Sea-bed samples

Sea-bed and animal samples mounted on glass for micropscope. Wooden box contains 12 trays each with six glass slides. Some slides are from the 'Challenger' expedition 1872–76, some are from HMS Triton, an RN auxilliary paddle survey vessel launched in 1882. HMS Triton slides include bee tongues, bluebottle wings and fleas collected in the North Sea and off Stornoway.
