Naval telescope

The tapering barrel of this achromatic telescope is made of mahogany. It has a single brass draw tube. The other fittings are also brass and included sliding objective lens and eyepiece covers, although the objective lens cover is now missing. There are three stop lines engraved on the draw tube to indicate the optimum working lengths of the telescope according to the type of object being viewed.

Telescopes like this were commonly used on board ship in the 19th century for making general observations.
