Mug
A creamware mug, transfer-printed and hand-coloured with a portrait of an officer intended to represent Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). Ships in action are shown in the background, and inscribed on a ribbon on twigs below: 'SUCCESS TO ADML NELSON'. An identical portrait of Admiral Sir George Brydges Rodney (1719-1792) is shown on an enamel plaque, based on an engraving of Rodney without the hat, published by Edward Harding in 1800 (see AAA4370).
