Silver creamer from a three-piece service presented to Sir Home Riggs Popham (1762-1820)
A silver creamer from a three-piece service presented to Sir Home Riggs Popham (1762-1820). It has a handle, gilded interior and gadrooned rim. The side is engraved with the arms of Sir Home Popham with the neck badge of the Order of Malta (Popham was made a knight of the order by Tsar Paul in 1799). The motto: 'ME JUVAT IRE PER ALTUM' (I delight to cross the depths) surrounds the shield.
