Bottle

Buff, salt glazed stoneware gin bottle, modelled as a half-length figure of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805), in Rear-Admiral's uniform and wearing a hat. He has the stars of the orders of the Bath, St Ferdinand and the Crescent embroidered on his coat to which is pinned a Naval gold medal and two medals are worn around his neck, one inscribed 'NILE 1798'. The bottle has a rope twist handle, and the inscription 'TRAFALGAR 1805/ENGLAND EXPECTS EVERY MAN TO DO HIS DUTY' is impressed on the base. The maker's mark is impressed underneath. The surface is painted in natural colours, with oil-based paint.
