Mug

Trafalgar centenary commemorative two handled mug. The body is in colour-glazed stoneware with two rope twist handles coloured blue. Moulded decoration on the sides consists of dark blue and brown panels with rope twist borders, on which are placed two pale blue medallions. The background is a mottled blue-green. On one medallion, an oval profile portrait of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) with a coronet above. 'LORD NELSON BORN 1758 DIED 1805' is inscribed on either side. The other medallion bears the Trafalgar signal, 'ENGLAND . EXPECTS . EVERY . MAN . WILL . DO . HIS . DUTY.' The Royal Doulton mark is impressed on the base.
