Scarborough, Yorkshire
Here, boys and girls watch intently as a local fisherman wields his net. In the early 19th century, Scarborough had a busy shipping and fishing industry. From 1785 to 1810, 209 ships were built in the town. However, shipbuilding declined in the 19th century, while fishing survived.
