Scabbard

Scabbard for French sword. The scabbard is black leather with two gilt brass mounts. The top locket bears a long hook each side for suspension and the chape ends in a scallop shell and is engraved with a hammered mermaid with a birfurcated tail, the two parts of which are entwined. The piece ends in a semi-circular projection bearing a punched scallop shell. The chape is plain save for two groups of two horizontal engraved threads.
