Stand

Stand for terrestrial table globe. Geographical details on the sphere include two notes in the north polar area: 'the sea seen by Mr. Herne in 1771' and 'the sea seen by Mc..kenzie 1789'. Australia is labelled 'NEW HOLLAND', but its south coast is not outlined. 'VAN DIEMENS LAND 1642' is drawn as an island. There is a note on Cook's death: 'Owhyhee Here Capt. Cook was killed, 14 Feb, 1779'.

There are four notes on discoveries in Australia, including, for example, 'LAND OF EENDRACHT 1615', 'VAN DIEMENS LAND 1618' and LOIN'S LAND 1622'. In North America, 'NEW SOUTH WALES 1611', and finally 'Feejee Is. of Bligh 1789'. The tracks of Cook are extensively recorded by dates and the most southern point is labelled.
