Margaret Maskelyne, Lady Clive (1735-1817)
A head and shoulders portrait facing left, with the sitter in near profile looking slightly down and wearing a possibly silk cap on a high-dressed hairstyle, the hair being a greying light brown: at the time the original was painted (c. 1770-74) she was in her late thirties. She wears a white-trimmed brown silk gown and a choker necklace of a single string of pearls round the neck, against a dark background.
