Fore turret of Scorpion (1863) after firing at portholes with 6pr [pounder]
A slightly cropped photograph of the fore turret of HMS Scorpion (1863), an iron Turret Ship used as a Guard Ship, after being fired at by the 6 pounder guns of HMS Crescent (1892), a First Class Cruiser.
The photographer was in a boat alongside the Scorpion, just aft of the fore turret looking forward towards the foredeck. The turret has a series of holes where the shells hit the turret, and two on the hull just below the gunwales.
