A section of the railway between Colombo and Kandy, Sri Lanka (Ceylon)

A view of a section of the incline on the Colombo to Kandy railway, Sri Lanka (Ceylon). This railway connected the coffee plantations to the coast. The photographer is standing on the side of the track revealing the steep cliff that the railway has been carved into. In the middle distance is a steam engine with wagon. The Prince of Wales visited Kandy on 2 December 1875.
