Four pieces of kava root tied together by string. An attached card label reads: 'SAMOA KAVA ROOT, Native name - 'ava'. The dried root of the Pipermethnicticum from, which the ceremonial drink is prepared by being chewed, grated or pounded.' Formerly in the collections of the London Missionary Society.
