Horizontal pedestal dial

Forged horizontal pedestal dial with no measurable latitude. This instrument comprises a brass horizontal dial with an octagonal volvelle mounted above.
Engraved at the top of the plate is the fake signature: 'Horologio delle hore dallevare e tramontare del Sole C. Guadagni fece MDCCLVII' (Dial of the rising and setting of the Sun.C. Guadagni made it 1757). The sundial on this instrument is so poorly engraved, it cannot be used to tell the time. The false signature of Guadagni also appears on AST0277.

For more information regarding this dial please refer to the OUP & NMM catalogue, 'Sundials at Greenwich'.
