Sub Lieutenant M. J. Bethell signing for the signal books on board HMS 'Aurora' (1913).
A view from the port side of the quarterdeck looking forward and to starboard on the light cruiser HMS 'Aurora' (1913). Sub Lieutenant Maurice J. Bethell signs for the signal books being held by an unidentified unformed man. Behind the two men is the three inch gun, with the starboard after four inch gun partially obscured by Sub Lt. Bethell and the stove pipe. Sub Lt. Bethell was promoted to Lieutenant on 15 August 1915 and then transferred to HMS Hornet (1911) in September.
The negative has some silver mirroring, and the image is affected by two areas of underexposure around the stove pipe and feet of the two men.
