Sopwith Schneider No. 1557 secured to the stern of the light cruiser HMS Aurora (1913)
The Sopwith Schneider bi-plane seaplane No. 1557 on the water secured by a painter to the stern of the light cruiser HMS Aurora (1913). In the background is the training ship HMS Ganges (ex Minotaur (1863)) with Shotley to the right of the image. Ships can be seen moored in the Stour. The photographer was standing on Aurora looking aft up the river Stour.
The Sopwith arrived on board HMS 'Aurora' on 24 May and was transferred back to Felixstowe on 28 before being allocated to HMS 'Arethusa' (1913) on 29 May.
The negative has small flecks on the negative (non-emulsion side) but it does not affect the image too much.
