Chess set

Travelling chess set and board in hinged teak box. The pieces are ivory, half coloured red. Both the red and white pieces have four pawns missing. The chequered board is made of wood veneers. The inner wooden cover comes apart in two sections which fit into a keyplate on the base to form a rigid board. The board was used by William Badeley (1848-1939) on a voyage to Australia in 1875.
