Glass and ivory picture

Glass picture commemorating the Battle of the Nile, 1798. It comprises a circular glass dome which is painted on the reverse with a warship on the left and two boats to its right. This covers a painted battle scene with 'ADML NELSONS VICTORY' inscribed on the sky above. In the centre are the remains of the Flench flagship 'L'Orient' and on the right the stern of Nelson's flagship inscribed 'VANGUARD'. The glass has a border of gold, white, pink and black. The whole is held in a turned soapstone frame with a suspension ring.
