Beaker

Silver-lined engraved horn beaker. The top an bottom rims are made of silver and there is a silver plaque on the side engraved 'H.T.Lawes'. The base is a clear piece of horn with a silver nut. Three engraved roundels on the horn depict - 1) A naval action between an British and American ship, probably 'Shannon' and 'Chesapeake' 2) A fortress 3) A harbour scene with a fortress. The inscribed lines are coloured in black and red. There are engraved borders around the roundels and at the top and bottom of the beaker. Some of the engraving is picked out with black and red pigments. Inside the beaker, near the rim are a set of hallmarks.
