Death of Nelson at Trafalgar
Electrotype copper [?] plaque after the high-relief bronze panel by Carew (1850) at the base of Nelson's Column, in a black wooden frame with a gold inner moulding. The lower edge of the plaque bears the legend 'ENGLAND EXPECTS EVERY MAN WILL DO HIS DUTY'. It is accompanied by a handwritten label including a laudatory doggerel verse, originally framed when both were purchased from a Mr Franklin of Bexleyeath in October 1975 but now demounted (AAB0489).
