S.S. 'Archimedes' memorial plate
Inscribed plate relating to the SS 'Archimedes' 1838. 'MEMORABILIS ARCHIMEDES. This Boat was Built to Prove the the Propeller Invented by F.P.Smith (may success crown his Efforts). This plate was placed here by William Haden, his Friend & Companion in many arduous trials in perfecting his Plan. WIMSHURST Builder: Limehouse. Port of LONDON A.D.1838.' The donor believed it came from the engine room when the vessel was broken up.
